30 Quick Tips For Better Health by Don Verhulst, M.D

This is one of those small, easy to take anywhere sort of paperback books. One you are thrilled you remembered to tuck away in the nook of your car, purse or bag when the time to read presents itself. I was glad that today I had this book tucked away when I took my lunch and ate it at the park. This book made a wonderful, picnic lunch companion and I ended up staying at the park far longer than I had initially planned because of it. Most all, if not all of the little tidbits shared here for better health are ones I have already personally read about. Even so, they are still worth repeating! Good to be reminded. The chapters are short so if you’ve just got a few minutes left before heading off to work, at lunch break, before bed, or what have you…then you can sneak in a quick chapter or even two. I liked how the author used acronyms to help you remember the health tips such as the ones for a heart healthy lifestyle. H= Healthy Foods E= Exercise A= Antioxidants R= Restrict T= Temperance Each chapter gives a person ways to make the needed changes to happen. Ideas are given how to accomplish these changes. Quick. To the point. Helpful. I received this book for free from Siloam publishing in exchange for a free book review through The Bookteria book review program. I was not required to write a favorable review.

The Juice Lady's Big Book of Juices & Green Smoothies by Cherie Calbom, MS, CN

First of all I would like to share the reason why I decided to order this book. Is it because in the past I have gone on juice fasts and had really good results? Is it because I have kind of tinkered around with juicing as in juices made with carrots, apples, kale and broccoli? None of the above but yes, also because of the above but mainly because...my dear husband who has NEVER been interested in such things has suddenly taken on an interest in juicing due to something he read about diabetes, which he has. I used to work for an elderly woman...in her 90's...who had me make her carrot juice each time I came. She always insisted that I make enough for myself to have some as well. Wasn't long at all that I noticed the dry skin on my upper arms disappear and I was made a believer! When I was younger I used to go on juice fasts...but nothing like the recipes in this book! I bought the frozen variety of juices and used those. THIS way...now...THIS would be a FAR HEALTHIER approach and it's got my wheels turning on who all to share these juices and smoothies with! Thinking the little granddaughters that seem to catch every virus that goes around. Hmmmmm...the possibilities are endless. I love that the cover of this book is bright and cheery and something about the colors makes me want to start in on the juices and smoothies right away! Very colorful and fresh looking! A good sized paperback book. If you look at the side of the pages you will find at the very top there are different colors to set apart the different chapters. Very nice! The contents reveal how the author has sectioned off the recipes which makes it easy to find what you are looking for.(For example: 7) Juice Remedies and Rejuvenators) This book is chock full of information as to the why's of juicing and green smoothies which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Even just at the point of the introduction! I must admit, I sometimes skip introductions? But not this one. You will find some really great testimonials of those who have juiced or drank green smoothies and their outcome right there in the introduction. In Chapter 1 the author answers some frequently asked questions about juicing, juice nutrition, what type of juicer to choose, what fruits and vegetables need to be peeled first, and can you use those seeds? Sort of things. It talks about things like why juicing is so effective that it can even change our lives. Something else I like...at the beginning of each chapter there is a “going over” of the subject that chapter is about. There are also little “tidbits” of information added “here” and “there” which are quite helpful such as the information on what would be best ingrediants for diabetics. I recommend this book and am inspired by it!!! I received this book for free in exchange for a free book review from SILOAM publishing through the Bookteria book review program. I was not required to write a favorable review.
